About the activity

The chef has a picture recipe showing how many of each vegetable go into the soup. Children choose vegetables from the baskets and put them in the pot. When there is enough of something, the chef says “That’s enough!”, and when something doesn’t belong in the soup, you hear “Not today!”. In the end the soup is ready.

The game combines counting with vegetables and suits autumn, harvest and healthy food topics.

What children develop

  • counting and matching quantities to a model
  • recognising and naming vegetables
  • attention and self-checking while completing a task
  • vocabulary about cooking and food

How to use it in class

  1. Cook a real soup with the children or make a vegetable salad from a picture recipe.
  2. Children can take turns: one chooses the vegetables while the others check the recipe.
