About the activity

A picture of a job is shown whole for a moment and then falls apart into horizontal strips. Each strip has a number and the same number of dots. Children drag the strips into the frame in number order from top to bottom until the picture joins up again and the name of the job appears. The teacher chooses whether the children will work with numbers 1 to 5 or 1 to 10.

One game has 6 pictures out of 12 jobs: doctor, firefighter, baker, teacher, shop assistant, postman, farmer, builder, chef, hairdresser, police officer and garbage collector.

What children develop

  • the order of numbers from 1 to 5 and from 1 to 10
  • matching numerals to numbers of dots
  • putting a whole together from parts
  • learning about jobs

How to use it in class

  1. Start with numbers 1 to 5; older children can manage 1 to 10.
  2. With each finished picture, ask the children what this person does at work.
