About the activity

Children get to know six forest fruits: wild strawberry, raspberry, blueberry, blackberry, lingonberry and rose hip.

In What grows in the forest? a plant grows out of the ground before the children’s eyes, flowers and ripens its fruit. Each fruit is then shown close up with its name.

In Forest riddles a fruit hides behind a question mark. Children get up to five picture clues one by one: its colour, where it grows, its flower, its leaf or thorns, and a close-up of its surface under a magnifier. When they think they know the answer, they tap the question mark and check it themselves. The riddles come in a different order every game.

The game has no voice-over; the teacher reads the short text next to each clue to the children. The activity is free, so you can try out how Edulo activities work on your board without any risk.

What children develop

  • recognising and naming forest fruits
  • watching how a plant grows, flowers and ripens
  • logical thinking when guessing from clues
  • noticing details: colour, shape, flower and leaf

How to use it in class

  1. Watch What grows in the forest? together first; the riddles will then be easier to guess.
  2. In the riddles, let the children guess after the first or second clue. Whoever guesses can tap the question mark and check the answer.
  3. Talk about only eating forest fruits that an adult knows, and never picking unknown berries.
